{"id":279,"date":"2020-09-23T13:25:59","date_gmt":"2020-09-23T12:25:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.theprintspace.com\/help-center\/?post_type=ht_kb&#038;p=279"},"modified":"2022-08-11T16:17:11","modified_gmt":"2022-08-11T15:17:11","slug":"cropping-and-resizing-in-adobe-lightroom","status":"publish","type":"ht_kb","link":"https:\/\/www.theprintspace.com\/help-center\/knowledge-base\/cropping-and-resizing-in-adobe-lightroom\/","title":{"rendered":"Cropping and resizing in Adobe Lightroom"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>How to crop and resize your artwork, and export a JPEG or TIF file in Adobe Lightroom for print.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This two part guide explains how to crop and resize your images within Adobe Lightroom if you require specific sizes for your artwork.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>If you need a specific size print theprintspace recommends cropping your file in Adobe Lightroom prior to resizing and follow <strong>Step 1 and 2<\/strong> of this tutorial. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>If your image file is in the correct proportions \/ aspect ratio, you can just export a new file at the desired dimensions and just follow <strong>Step 2 <\/strong>of the tutorial.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"part-1---to-crop-a-file-in-adobe-lightroom\">Step 1: Cropping an image in Adobe Lightroom<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Open Lightroom and in the Library Module go <strong>File &gt; Import Photos and Video<\/strong>, or click the Import button at the bottom of the screen<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img src=\"https:\/\/downloads.intercomcdn.com\/i\/o\/58663809\/5444c8563a30cd406159aef0\/ap1.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Locate the file or photo you need to crop in the source panel on the left hand side and press the <strong>Import<\/strong> button<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img src=\"https:\/\/downloads.intercomcdn.com\/i\/o\/58663818\/10d1b7b26c1ba7b5b981475d\/ap2.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Now go to the <strong>Develop<\/strong> module and select the <strong>Crop and Straighten Tool<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img src=\"https:\/\/downloads.intercomcdn.com\/i\/o\/58663851\/6e5e39ca73c7894724542200\/ap3.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Click on <strong>Original<\/strong> next to the padlock icon and select <strong>Enter Custom<\/strong> at the bottom of the drop-down list.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img src=\"https:\/\/downloads.intercomcdn.com\/i\/o\/58663856\/f4c9d6e2d8e7cc47cec18b0d\/4.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Now enter the aspect ratio or proportions of your required print size and select ok. In this example we are cropping for a print size of 16 x 12 inches.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img src=\"https:\/\/downloads.intercomcdn.com\/i\/o\/58663871\/9aa60bf3b60a11e68fcd3254\/4.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Move the crop size and location to crop your file as required using the grid. Grayed-out areas will be removed during cropping.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Select <strong>Done<\/strong> to crop your image and now your file is in the correct proportions.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img src=\"https:\/\/downloads.intercomcdn.com\/i\/o\/58663893\/57465793c731d8def1f398ad\/ap6.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"part-2--resizing-a-file-in-adobe-lightroom\">Step 2: Resizing and exporting a file in Adobe Lightroom<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Once you are happy with your crop you just need to export your file at the correct physical size for printing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Go to<strong> File &gt; Export<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img src=\"https:\/\/downloads.intercomcdn.com\/i\/o\/58663922\/04796d98c98ca392104e5065\/ap8.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>In <strong>Export,<\/strong> select the destination where you want to save the file and select <strong>Put in a Subfolder<\/strong> and name that subfolder as required.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>In <strong>File-naming<\/strong> select <strong>Rename<\/strong> <strong>to<\/strong> and use <strong>Custom<\/strong> name and in the <strong>Custom Text<\/strong> field add your desired name for the file.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In <strong>File Settings<\/strong> options<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>Select Image format \u2013 TIF<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Compression \u2013 None<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Colorspace \u2013 Adobe RGB 1998<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Bit Depth \u2013 8 bits\/component<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Note<\/strong>: There are also options to export as JPEG, make sure you use the highest quality setting (100) for best results in print with minimal quality loss.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now you can set the required image size in CMs or inches for you print.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In <strong>Image sizing<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Check <strong>Resize to fi<\/strong>t &gt;
